TRADITIONS IN THE TRUNK - Celebrating Swedish Folk Dress

May to October 2009

descprition

Artwork by:Sharon Aamodt

Isn’t it fun to visit a festival or historic site and see folks dressed in appropriate garments for that event? What is the usual reaction…..to pose for a photo with the garment or person to remember the event and all the fun activities associated with your being there. The garments are usually colorful, different than garments of the 21st century and tell you much about the person wearing them. A term used is Folk Drächt….Folk Dress and will be the special emphasis for Gammelgården in 2009

We are celebrating these wonderful garments and traditions this year and invite you to join us….not in the sense of theatre and costume, but as a means of respect and understanding for the life of our immigrant relatives, where they came from and what they brought with them. There will be displays, classes, visitors and a special style show in October.
