Swedish Immersion Day Camp for Children 5 to 12
This one week Swedish Immersion Camp is for children ages 5 to 12. Children will meet at Gammelgården Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. Each child should bring their own lunch and Hej Hej Sommar! will provide Swedish snacks. (Allergy sheets are required at registration.) Carolyn Spargo, director of Hej Hej Sommar!, is the daughter of an immigrant from Dalarna, Sweden and has been involved in Swedish Culture all through her life. She teaches Swedish privately and with Concordia Language Villages, is a musician playing with Versk Spelman, the ASI Spelmanslag and Vasa Jr. Folk dancers, She brings a wealth of Swedish music, language, culture and FUN to Gammelgården Children's Summer Programming. Here are some of the activities your child will enjoy at Hej Hej Sommar!
- Swedish Holidays and Customs - children will love the "julgranskarameller"
- Swedish Language Instruction - focus on conversational Swedish
- Swedish Songs, Folk Instruments, Dances and Games - learn to play KUBB
- Swedish Crafts and Foods - feather Påskris trees, yarn jultomtar and Swedish cookies
Parents and Grandparents will be invited to a final program at the end of the week with songs, dances, displays of crafts and some Swedish conversation. Cost of this camp is $130.00 per session and a t-shirt will be provided each camper. Your child will love the week they spend in "Sweden" here at Gammelgården Museum.
